The Department of Languages and Linguistics at Florida Atlantic University offers the following programs:

Master of Arts in Linguistics (MA)
Major in Linguistics (BA)
Minor in Linguistics
ESL certificate

Master of Arts in Linguistics
Admission requirements for the graduate program are (1) an average of B or better in the last 60 semester hours of undergraduate courses, and (2) a combined total score of 1000 or better on the combined verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Examination. Exceptions for meeting both requirements are sometimes made by petition. Course work may be started before being admitted to the program. Graduate teaching assistantships with tuition waivers are sometimes possible in our foreign language fields (see above), English, and Communication for qualified applicants with previous degrees or training in those areas.

Application Procedure:

Students wishing to pursue the Master of Arts in Linguistics must satisfy all university graduate admission requirements. Applications, and information on University graduate admission requirements, are available through Graduate Admissions. In addition, applications should include a brief (2-3pp) statement of qualifications and primary purpose in graduate study.

Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics

A major in linguistics requires 45 credit hours in linguistics from a variety of courses. The checklist for majors is available online. For more information, please consult the FAU undergraduate catalog. Double-majors should contact Professor Stayc DuBravac for advising purposes.

Minors are required to take 18 credit hours in linguistics.
